Glowing skin is in – 5 steps to achieve glowing skin

Glowing skin is in – 5 steps to achieve glowing skin

There’s no doubt about it – glowing skin is in. And, we’ve rounded up five key steps to achieving your healthiest, most radiant glow yet. Read on!

  • Cleanse, exfoliate, and don’t overdo it

  • When it comes to achieving glowing skin, there are some non-negotiables in terms of your skincare routine. First? Cleansing (or double cleansing – but more on that here). The importance of cleansing your skin daily can’t be overstated, washing away makeup, dirt, grime and pollution and unclogging your pores. This helps to keep your skin clean, healthy and radiant; a clean canvas ready to soak up the rest of your skincare products.

The second most important step? Exfoliating. If you’re after silky smooth, clear skin, opt for a physical or chemical exfoliant to help slough away dead skin cells to reveal new, fresh skin cells which will up the ante on your glow.

Perhaps most importantly though, is remembering not to overdo it. The age old saying ‘everything in moderation’ applies here, as over-cleaning or exfoliating the skin can also compromise our skin barrier, impact our skin’s pH levels or cause irritation or sensitivity. Just remember honey: easy does it!

  • Sweat it out, honey!

  • You’ve heard it all before, but here’s a reminder: exercise is good for you – and surprisingly, your skin, too. Whilst we don’t usually put ‘going for a run’ and ‘glowing skin’ hand in hand, getting your heart rate going can actually have some pretty sweet benefits for your overall glow factor. For instance, working out increases blood circulation in the body, boosting blood flow to the skin cells and stimulating the skin’s natural collagen production. Although a sweat sesh isn't always pretty, the skin is the largest organ in the human body and is key to detoxification, so a good workout also helps to remove toxins from the skin.

Plus, we’ve all experienced the dreaded ‘stress pimple’; you know the type, the breakouts that show up right when life seems to up the intensity. And whilst our Honey Shots Clearing Gel does an excellent job of keeping breakouts at bay, exercise is super important to decrease your stress levels in the first place. So if you want to bid goodbye to pesky stress breakouts, schedule in a workout, stat!

  • Hit snooze

  • Surprisingly, a lot happens when you snooze. Your body, for one, boosts blood flow to the skin while you sleep which is why we often wake up with a healthy-looking glow after a solid eight hours (and a not-so-well-rested glow when we have a late one!). During sleep, our body also repairs skin cell damage, giving your skin the ability to regenerate and reset throughout the night. So if you want a consistent glow, don’t skip out on your eight hours.

  • The glow starts within

  • Our diet plays an important role in our skin health, and whilst it may seem like a cliché, it really all does begin from within. Try opting for foods that are high in antioxidants (think: berries) and vitamin C (citrus fruits), as well as healthy fats (avocados, anyone?). Sugar can also be a bit of a frenemy when it comes to your skin health, so skip the refined sugar options and instead opt for natural sweeteners like Manuka Honey which contain antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. With small tweaks in your diet towards more gut-loving foods and alternatives, you should start to see an improvement in your general skin clarity and glow.

  • Don’t skip on SPF

  • Finally, make SPF your absolute BFF when it comes to protecting your skin from the harmful effects of the sun. Sun exposure can cause pigmentation and dark spots among other concerns, so if you want to achieve your glowiest skin yet, layer up on sunscreen (particularly after using active ingredients or exfoliating) and put your best, glowy, face forward!
