My sweet sweet experience
Honey holds a special place in my heart. Not only is it sweet and soothing but it's one of those blissful nostalgic moments that triggers a smile. Memories of my granny popping me up on the kitchen bench, spooning her honey jar (from her own bee hives) and popping it straight into my mouth to soothe my sore throat right before bed. It was her ultimate medicine.
Treating conditions with honey is not a new discovery. In ancient times it was used to treat multiple conditions due to its natural antibacterial properties. Honey protects the body and boosts production of cells that are responsible for repairing tissue damaged by infection. However not all honey is the same. When harvested well, manuka honey specifically, has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antioxidant properties that can assist ease pain and inflammation, soothe a sore throat (as gran knew) and treat ulcers and acne.
So, when PollenNation gifted me their Honey Shots Clearing Gel you better believe I was intrigued to test this baby out! I am blessed to not suffer from severe acne. However, due to my hormonal challenges of managing PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome - a condition that affects women's hormone levels) hormonal acne does play a role. Stress, my cycle, gut health and food intake all affect my skin. So using the clearing gel topically to clear any imperfections worked perfectly leading up to my sister's wedding!
The texture of the gel is lightweight and hydrating. Not the texture you’d expect from a honey based product! It reduces redness, assists with decongestion and clears away bacteria which is exactly what I needed. I applied a small amount over my problematic areas and waited for it to absorb into the skin. I then proceeded with my daily skin care routine and over the course of a week I saw a noticeable change. My skin was clearer and less congested.
